Tariff exemption (relief) — full or partial exemption from the import customs duty, granted regardless of the country of origin of the goods (for example, contribution to charter capital, certain equipment, humanitarian aid). Unlike a tariff preference, which depends on the country of origin.
A tariff exemption is tied to the category of goods or the purpose of import, while a preference is tied to origin from a particular country. Both reduce payments but are confirmed differently.
