Import VAT
Import VAT is the value added tax paid to the customs authority when importing goods. It is charged on the customs value including the duty and, where applicable, the excise.
The rate depends on the type of goods; certain categories are eligible for reduced rates or exemption under established lists. VAT paid at customs can subsequently be deducted under the rules of tax accounting.
A correct VAT calculation relies on the right HS code and a properly determined customs value.
